Below you will find information about Ohio’s Third Grade Reading Guarantee, district and state testing, and English Language Arts resources to help your child this year.
Ohio's Third Grade Reading Guarantee is a program to identify students from kindergarten through grade 3 that are behind in reading. Schools will provide help and support to make sure students are on track for reading success by the end of third grade.
Ways to meet the TGRG criteria:
An overall score of 685 on the state ELA test
A reading subscore of 47 or higher on the state test (AIR)
195 or above on MAP Growth Reading 2-5 in winter or spring
Summer School testing in July
Fall AIR Test- October
Winter MAP Growth- January
Spring AIR Test- April
Spring MAP Growth- April
All students in grades 1-3 are given a reading diagnostic in the fall.
Students who score below the grade level benchmark are considered Not On-Track and parents are notified through a mailed letter.
A Reading Improvement & Monitoring Plan(RIMP) is developed for each child that is considered Not On-Track.
RIMPs allow teachers and parents to work together to provide targeted reading support.
RIMPs can be created throughout the school year, based on individual reading needs.

Have your child read 20 minutes per night

Columbus Metropolitan Library- The Columbus Metropolian Library offers many services to assist K-3 students including after-school schoolwork help and Reading Buddies (vitrual and person options available).
Lexia- Only available for select students. Through the Lexia online program, students have individualized learning paths and are motivated by their own success. Lexia’s research-proven program provides explicit, systematic, personalized learning in the six areas of reading instruction, targeting skill gaps as they emerge.
Epic- Can only be used during school hours unless a home subscription is purchased. Epic is the leading digital reading platform—built on a collection of 40,000+ popular, high-quality books from 250+ of the world’s best publishers.
Time for Kids- TIME for Kids (TFK) brings real news and information to young people so that they can develop a lifelong interest in, and a connection to, world events.
Wonderopolis-Wonderopolis was created by the National Center for Families Learning (NCFL) in 2010, and it has become one of the most popular education sites today. It includes 2,000+ Wonders of the Day (and counting!), covering a vast range of topics—you're child is sure to find something that interests them!
Dreamscape- Dreamscape is a hyper-gamified reading program. It combines strategy, engagement, and imaginative reading passages to create a fun, curriculum-aligned literacy game for grades 2 - 8 - and it's FREE!
